Jacob Poulos, has performed in more than thirty states and across three countries showcasing versatility in the constantly developing field of music. For the 2018-2019 tour season, he was a member of the orchestra of the national tour of The King and I. He has also toured with A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, 2014's Tony-award-winning new musical.
While in Colorado, Jacob was a regular substitute horn with the Denver Brass and can be heard on their CD Cathedral Brass and Organ: Feel the Sound on the Denver Brass's self-titled label released in 2012. He has also performed with the Boulder Symphony, SONAR New Music Ensemble, Patriot Brass Ensemble, Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, and the Boulder Philharmonic. As an advocate for new music, Jacob has collaborated with Robert Beaser of the Juilliard School at the 2011 Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music.
Jacob played as guest fourth horn with the Orquesta Filharmonica de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico and was also a member of the Washington Chamber Orchestra with whom he recorded the Schumann Cello Concerto alongside Amit Peled in the spring of 2015. He also performed Ragtime with Theater Aspen in their 2018 summer program. He was awarded full-tuition scholarships to the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Aspen Music Festival in 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively. Jacob is a member of the University of Denver's chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda in recognition of outstanding scholastic and musical achievement. In the spring of 2014, Jacob was given the honor of performing Frank Martin's Concerto for Seven Wind instruments and Percussion with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the late Leon Fleisher.
Jacob completed his Masters in Music at the Peabody Institute of Music at the Johns Hopkins University where he was awarded the Barbara W. Pickus Memorial Scholarship and received the Lynn Hebden Prize in Performance upon graduation. Prior to this, he graduated in 2012 cum laude from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. He also studied in London at both The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and City University of London. Jacob’s primary teachers have been Denise Tryon, Bruce Atwell, Susan McCullough, and Jonathan Lipton.
A native of Frankenmuth, Michigan, Jacob remains an active performer in his community. He is also an avid long distance runner and is in constant pursuit of his next marathon. He is also a coffee snob, and has competed in regional latte art competitions.
